Lamorinda is a quiet area of suburban and semi-rural communities nestled between Berkeley and Walnut Creek in Contra Costa County. Lamorinda’s name combines the names of its three constituent communities of Lafayette, Orinda, and Moraga. Its hilly terrain provides magnificent views in all three communities. All three friendly and welcoming communities have excellent transportation links to San Francisco and Berkeley and offer a wide range of housing options, from classic ranch homes and early 20th century properties to lavish estates and stunning contemporary custom builds. The area also contains numerous gated communities, including one surrounding the golf course at Moraga Country Club.

People & Lifestyle 

Highway 24 runs through all three communities, offering easy access to San Francisco and Oakland in the west and Walnut Creek and Concord in the east. There are also BART stations in Lafayette and Orinda. Lafayette is the largest of Lamorinda’s communities and serves as the area's main commercial hub. Orinda has its own historic downtown area, while Moraga has a smaller commercial area with a great selection of restaurants, shops, and services. Lamorinda is a peaceful area with a beautiful landscape and many outdoor recreation areas.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping 

Orinda has a thriving downtown area centered on historic Theatre Square. Here, you’ll find lots of shops and restaurants on streets surrounding the 1940s Orinda Theatre. Orinda Theatre hosts both movie screenings and concerts while the adjacent Cine Cuvee serves premium wine, craft beer, and delicious meals prepared with locally-sourced ingredients. Casa Orinda is another historic Orinda landmark that has been in business since the 1930s. The menu at this Old West-themed restaurant features a range of Italian entrées and signature Southern fried chicken. Other standouts include authentic, family-run Japanese eatery Hanazen, which offers handcrafted sushi and an impressive selection of sake.
 
Lafayette’s main commercial area is concentrated along Mount Diablo Boulevard, which runs east to west through town in parallel with Highway 24. La Fiesta Square features a diverse selection of restaurants and retailers, including beauty specialists Bluemercury and stylish boutiques such as Harper Greer and J. McLaughlin. Head to The Coffee Shop to enjoy artisanal espresso blends, organic juices, and alcoholic beverages alongside tasty breakfast and lunch plates on a relaxed outdoor patio. Social Bird is an upscale gastropub serving thoughtful meals and a great selection of cocktails, wine, and craft beer. Postino is a romantic Italian restaurant with dining on an outdoor patio and in an elegant interior featuring rustic fireplaces. Other businesses on Mount Diablo Boulevard include a Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe’s for grocery shopping.

Moraga has a small commercial area with restaurants, shops, and services centered on the Moraga Shopping Center. Canyon Club Brewery is a local favorite for Southern-style pub grub and homebrewed beers. Loard’s Ice Cream serves tasty scoops in a variety of classic and creative flavors. Other businesses include a Safeway for grocery shopping, La Finestra for Sicilian-style Italian dining, and iTea for boba tea and other specialty Taiwanese drinks and eats.

Things to Do

California Shakespeare Theater stages seasonal performances at Orinda’s Bruns Memorial Amphitheater. Performances at this hillside outdoor amphitheater include original productions and modern interpretations of Shakespeare’s most famous plays. Orinda Park features picnic and barbecue areas, two playgrounds, and three tennis courts. Other Orinda nature spots include the 12-acre Orinda Oaks Park. Hiking trails run from Orinda Oaks Park through 111 acres of open space with captivating ridgeline views over Lamorinda and the Diablo Valley. Lafayette Reservoir is another popular outdoor recreation area with hiking and jogging trails surrounding a fishing and boating lake.
